Wargaming Fucks Up Again! We’re not surprised in the least.

Another day, another fuck up brought to you by Wargaming. Folks, you can’t make this shit up. Wargaming have flat outdone themselves this time. First off, they partner up with a worthless, horribly rated, asshat partner that can’t be trusted to run a lemonade stand, let alone handle your sensitive information. Then, they pretty much say, “Fuck you!” to Canada, Mexico, and others who in all likelihood represent a larger part of the NA player base than the U.S. does.

How, pray tell, did they manage all of this? I’m glad you asked!

It all started innocently enough with a special that was posted on October 10th on the Official World of Tanks Forum. For those too lazy to click and read, here it is:

Veterans Deal Announcement

Now, that in and of itself doesn’t sound like a bad thing, does it? Well, that’s because it’s Wargaming and as usual they’re not capable of building a good case of hemorrhoids let alone plan an event.

The first shit that hits the fan comes from NightmareMk9 when he says this:

I’m not military, but I would be a little wary about linking my service to a company run in a foreign country.

http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/613138-announcing-wot-salute-benefits-program-for-veterans-and-military-personnel/page__pid__12279537#entry12279537

And then it comes to light that it’s ONLY for U.S. Veterans. DomoSapien, the asshat with a criminal record we did a story on recently, comes back with this little jewel:

It’s up to you, of course, but this is purely a Wargaming NA project, and we operate out of Austin, TX. ID.me is a US-based organization that has been doing military status verification for quite some time.

http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/613138-announcing-wot-salute-benefits-program-for-veterans-and-military-personnel/page__pid__12279543#entry12279543

Wow. Just fucking wow. So you make an announcement on the NORTH AMERICAN FORUM about a special for VETERANS. Not SOME Veterans. Not A FEW Veterans. Not SELECT Veterans. Just Veterans. That of course assumes all veterans that happen to be playing on the NA server.

In less than an hour, it’s already cut drastically down to U.S. Veterans only. So our question for the panel becomes, do the fucking morons at Wargaming not own a globe?

THIS is North America:

Map of North America that apparently Wargaming doesn’t have.

And THIS is the location of the Wargaming North American Servers:

Location of the North American Servers

So that means that this special is for everybody on the North American Server EXCEPT:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Canada
  • Costa Rica
  • Cuba
  • Dominica
  • Dominican Republic
  • El Salvador
  • Grenada
  • Guatemala
  • Haiti
  • Honduras
  • Jamaica
  • Mexico
  • Nicaragua
  • Panama
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis
  • Saint Lucia
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago

But they’re based in Austin. Fucking brilliant. I tell you, the sheer incompetence of Wargaming and its employees is simply staggering. It’s beyond belief they could launch something this horrific, which brings me to sunny point number two:

THEY ARE MAKING YOU GIVE UP THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER TO A SHITTY COMPANY TO GET THIS SPECIAL.

I’m not shitting. This is the screen you go to when you want to sign up for this bullshit:

Account screen for signing up for Veterans deal.

That little ID.me logo is what you click and from there you fill out your Social Security info to “verify” that you’re a military person.

Here’s the problem with that: IT IS STUPID BEYOND BELIEF TO GIVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER EVEN IN PART TO A THIRD PARTY.

Especially one this fucking horrible!

ID me has F rating at the Better Business Bureau

And recent reviews of this “service”:

Horrific reviews from Veterans that used ID me.

Now, for those of you outside the U.S. that don’t understand how important a Social Security number is to Americans, know this:

It’s basically your entire livelihood. It is the number one element used in identity theft in the United States. The last 4 digits are used to:

  • Access your bank account
  • Access your credit card accounts
  • Access your medical records
  • Access property titles, deeds and legal papers

And Wargaming expects you to give that over to a company that has an F rating and nothing but bad reviews so you can get a few deals that probably aren’t worth a shit at all.

Anybody that does that, well, they deserve whatever the fuck happens to them. Wargaming might as well have sent the player base an email that starts off with, “Hi! I’m an African prince that has millions in the bank, but I need your help to get it out.”

So, as inept, moronic, shitty and flat out ridiculous as all that is, it couldn’t possibly get any worse, right?

WRONG!

This is Wargaming we’re talking about! They’re not about to just fuck it up 9 ways from Sunday. They’re going to full 10!

Consoles are out as well!

Shit! So now consoles are out! So even if you are a U.S. Veteran if you happen to play on a console you get dick.

So a special for EVERYBODY...as long as you’re not on console, are not anywhere in North America other than the U.S. and are stupid enough to give your social security information to a corporation that doesn’t have the ability to run a lemonade stand.

AWESOME!

And what sort of wonderful, incredible, fantastic deals do you get after all of that shit? Brace yourselves:

85 Dollar T-shirt deal for Veterans from Wargaming.

Yeah. Uh-huh. Sure.

And when you click the link, what do you get?

    Facepalm

You ever notice that they hire these criminal felon types, (with records) that have no volition about doing these sorts of things? Kinda like on that movie the Dirty Dozen. They hire the wrong types to do their wet work for them. People of better moral ethical character would either leave, quit, rebel, turn them in, report them, or follow another course of action. But, no, not Wargaming… No way, press forward like a corrupt operation should and double down.

As a vet, there are cyber security awareness in gov’t online courses that all U.S. military personnel are required to take. This is an ANNUAL requirement and the course is about 1-2 hrs of what NOT TO DO and what to be aware of when it comes to shit like this. This looks like what is referred to as a “phishing” scam. A classic example of what is outlined in the course. As soon as I looked at the last 4 of the SSN box, it was obvious to me that there is something shady going on here.
Here’s another thing, what do you get for forfeiting all your personal info? NOTHING! I would love to see the idiots in Austin (all 3 of them) hauled out in handcuffs, ahem, again.

    First line correction: ” ….cyber security, in-gov’t, online course….”

What kicks my ass is that anybody would be dumb enough to do it to begin with. I mean, shit man! With identity theft at epic proportions, and this half-assed rated F company doing the handling, you have to be insane to trust them with your social security number. All it takes is one asshole downloading their data and walking out the door with it and guess what?

They’ve got the keys to everything you fucking own.

You have to be moronic or brain dead to do that.

  5. Zeedox says:

In Canada it would be our (SIN) Social Insurance Number. And it’s just as bad to release for identity theft.
Not to mention WolfAttack is correct; NOT handing out personal info is cyber sec 101 for intell.

The complete and total lack of foresight of these people is simply astounding. Who they partner with is ever more so.

  7. Kittens_on_a_stick says:

COMPLETE FUCKING SCAM!! There is absolutely NO reason these ass-hats need a SSN. Whole or any part. NONE! NADA! ZILCH! In fact, it might actually be a CRIME for them to harvest this information.

  8. Thing 1 says:

They say it’s to verify you were military. If you got to start giving out vital information for a special on a fucking free-to-play pixel tank game, maybe you should rethink your special. Especially when that special alienates over half the fucking players on the server.
